- 1/3 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 egg
- 2 tablespoons ketchup
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- Salt & black pepper to taste
- 1 tablespoon oil or butter (for frying)
For the Gravy:
- 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1 tablespoon ketchup
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons butter
- Salt & pepper to taste
INSTRUCTIONS
- Make the Steaks:
- In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
- Mix until just combined. Shape into 4 oval patties.
- Brown the Patties:
- Heat oil or butter in a skillet over medium heat.
- Cook the patties for about 4–5 minutes per side, or until browned. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
- Make the Onion Gravy:
- In the same skillet, add butter and sliced onions. Sauté until soft and golden brown (about 5–7 minutes).
- Stir in flour and cook for 1 minute to remove raw flour taste.
- Gradually whisk in beef broth, then add ketchup and Worcestershire sauce.
- Bring to a simmer and cook until slightly thickened (about 3–4 minutes).
- Combine and Simmer:
- Return the browned patties to the skillet.
- Spoon some gravy over the top and cover.
- Simmer on low for 15–20 minutes, or until patties are cooked through.
- Serve:
- Serve hot with mashed potatoes, egg noodles, or over rice—don’t forget to drizzle plenty of that rich gravy on top!
