Ingredients
- 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup (120g) unsalted butter, softened
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 1/2 cups (190g) all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 cup (120ml) milk
- A pinch of salt
- Optional: powdered sugar for dusting or a glaze of your choice
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour an 8-inch round or square cake pan.
- Cream the butter and sugar together in a bowl until light and fluffy.
- Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the wet mixture, alternating with milk. Start and end with the flour mixture.
- Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top.
- Bake for 30–35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Dust with powdered sugar or glaze as desired. Slice and serve!
