GH Ready in 1 Hour! Authentic Italian Bread

Ingredients

  • 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ cups warm water (about 110°F / 45°C)
  • 2 ¼ tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 1 tbsp sugar or honey
  • 1 ½ tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp olive oil (plus more for brushing)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let sit for 5–7 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add olive oil, salt, and flour. Stir with a wooden spoon or spatula until a sticky dough forms.
  3. Cover the bowl with a towel or plastic wrap and let the dough rest for 30 minutes.
  4. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). Place a baking sheet or pizza stone inside to heat up.
  5. Transfer dough onto a floured surface. Shape into a round or oval loaf (no kneading required).
  6. Place on parchment paper. Lightly brush top with olive oil and sprinkle with extra flour if desired.
  7. Using a sharp knife, score slits on top of the dough for better rise.
  8. Carefully place the loaf (with parchment paper) onto the preheated baking sheet/stone.
  9. Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until golden brown and hollow-sounding when tapped.
  10. Let cool for at least 15 minutes before slicing.

Enjoy warm with butter, olive oil, or your favorite Italian dish!

Do you want me to also give you a focaccia-style version of this (same dough, but topped with olive oil, garlic, and herbs)?
