Ingredients
- 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 ½ cups warm water (about 110°F / 45°C)
- 2 ¼ tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)
- 1 tbsp sugar or honey
- 1 ½ tsp salt
- 2 tbsp olive oil (plus more for brushing)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let sit for 5–7 minutes until foamy.
- Add olive oil, salt, and flour. Stir with a wooden spoon or spatula until a sticky dough forms.
- Cover the bowl with a towel or plastic wrap and let the dough rest for 30 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). Place a baking sheet or pizza stone inside to heat up.
- Transfer dough onto a floured surface. Shape into a round or oval loaf (no kneading required).
- Place on parchment paper. Lightly brush top with olive oil and sprinkle with extra flour if desired.
- Using a sharp knife, score slits on top of the dough for better rise.
- Carefully place the loaf (with parchment paper) onto the preheated baking sheet/stone.
- Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until golden brown and hollow-sounding when tapped.
- Let cool for at least 15 minutes before slicing.
Enjoy warm with butter, olive oil, or your favorite Italian dish!
Do you want me to also give you a focaccia-style version of this (same dough, but topped with olive oil, garlic, and herbs)?
