Ingredients
- 2 slices of sourdough or Italian bread (or your favorite)
- 1 tablespoon butter, softened
- ½ cup cooked breaded chicken (store-bought tenders or homemade cutlet), sliced
- ¼ cup marinara sauce (plus more for dipping)
- ⅓ cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning (optional)
- Fresh basil leaves (optional)
Instructions
1. Butter one side of each slice of bread and set aside.
2. Heat a skillet over medium heat.
3. Place one slice of bread, buttered side down, in the skillet. Sprinkle half of the mozzarella cheese and 1 tablespoon of Parmesan on top.
4. Add the chicken pieces evenly, then spoon marinara sauce over the chicken.
5. Top with remaining mozzarella and Parmesan, and fresh basil if using.
6. Place the second slice of bread on top, buttered side up.
7. Grill the sandwich for 3–4 minutes per side, pressing slightly with a spatula, until golden brown and cheese is melted.
8. Remove from pan, let cool slightly, slice in half, and serve with warm marinara sauce for dipping.
