BAKED EGG CUSTARD RECIPE

Ingredients

  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 3 large eggs
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Set your oven to 325°F (163°C).
  2. Warm the Milk: In a saucepan over medium heat, warm the milk until it’s just hot but not boiling. Remove from heat.
  3. Mix Ingredients: In a bowl, whisk together eggs, sugar, vanilla extract, and salt.
  4. Combine: Slowly add the warm milk to the egg mixture, whisking continuously to avoid curdling.
  5. Strain: For a smoother custard, strain the mixture through a fine sieve.
  6. Pour into Ramekins: Divide the mixture evenly into ramekins or a baking dish.
  7. Water Bath: Place the ramekins in a baking dish and pour hot water around them until it reaches halfway up the sides.
  8. Bake: Bake for 40–45 minutes or until the custard is set but still slightly jiggly in the center.
  9. Cool & Serve: Let the custard cool before serving. Sprinkle with nutmeg if desired.
