Ingredients
- 2 cups whole milk
- 3 large eggs
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Set your oven to 325°F (163°C).
- Warm the Milk: In a saucepan over medium heat, warm the milk until it’s just hot but not boiling. Remove from heat.
- Mix Ingredients: In a bowl, whisk together eggs, sugar, vanilla extract, and salt.
- Combine: Slowly add the warm milk to the egg mixture, whisking continuously to avoid curdling.
- Strain: For a smoother custard, strain the mixture through a fine sieve.
- Pour into Ramekins: Divide the mixture evenly into ramekins or a baking dish.
- Water Bath: Place the ramekins in a baking dish and pour hot water around them until it reaches halfway up the sides.
- Bake: Bake for 40–45 minutes or until the custard is set but still slightly jiggly in the center.
- Cool & Serve: Let the custard cool before serving. Sprinkle with nutmeg if desired.
