WOULD YOU EAT THIS ITALIAN SAUSAGE WITH PEPPERS AND ONIONS

INGREDENT

  • 1 lb Italian sausage links (sweet or hot)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 red bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 green bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 yellow onion, sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/4 cup chicken broth or water (for steaming)
  • Hoagie rolls or sandwich buns (optional, for serving)

Instructions

  1. Brown the Sausages: In a large skillet over medium heat, add 1 tbsp olive oil. Brown the Italian sausage links on all sides until golden, about 5–7 minutes. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
  2. Sauté the Veggies: In the same skillet, add another tablespoon of olive oil. Add the sliced bell peppers and onions. Sauté for 5–7 minutes until they begin to soften. Add the minced garlic, oregano, red pepper flakes, salt, and black pepper. Cook for another 1–2 minutes.
  3. Combine and Steam: Return the sausages to the skillet. Add the chicken broth or water. Cover the skillet with a lid and simmer on low heat for about 10 minutes, or until sausages are fully cooked and veggies are tender.
  4. Serve: Serve hot on a plate or tucked into toasted hoagie rolls. Perfect with mustard or melted provolone cheese on top if you like!
