World’s Best Butter Cookies

Ingredients

  • 1 cup (226g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup (90g) powdered sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups (240g) all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Optional for decoration:

  • Granulated sugar for sprinkling
  • Chocolate for dipping or drizzling

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and powdered sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the vanilla extract and mix until combined.
  4. Sift in the flour and salt. Mix until a soft dough forms. (If the dough is too crumbly, add 1–2 teaspoons of milk.)
  5. Roll the dough into 1-inch balls or shape into desired cookie shapes (you can also pipe them using a star-tip pastry bag for a fancy look).
  6. Place cookies on the prepared baking sheet about 2 inches apart. Flatten slightly with a fork or thumb if needed.
  7. Bake for 10–12 minutes or until the edges are just lightly golden.
  8. Let cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  9. Optional: Once cooled, dip half of each cookie in melted chocolate or sprinkle with sugar.

Enjoy your melt-in-your-mouth butter cookies! Let me know if you’d like a version with added flavors (like lemon or almond).
