White Dessert Cake recipe

Ingredients

  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 ½ tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large egg whites
  • 1 ½ tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • ½ cup sour cream

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. Whisk dry ingredients – flour, baking powder, and salt – in a bowl. Set aside.
  3. Cream butter and sugar in a large mixing bowl until light and fluffy.
  4. Add egg whites, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in vanilla extract.
  5. Alternate adding the dry ingredients and milk, starting and ending with the flour mixture. Stir in sour cream until just combined.
  6. Pour batter evenly into prepared cake pans and smooth the tops.
  7. Bake for 25–30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  8. Cool cakes in pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  9. Frost with your favorite white frosting, such as buttercream or whipped cream.
  10. Decorate and serve as desired!
