Ingredients
- 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 2 ½ tsp baking powder
- ½ tsp salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 4 large egg whites
- 1 ½ tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup whole milk
- ½ cup sour cream
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- Whisk dry ingredients – flour, baking powder, and salt – in a bowl. Set aside.
- Cream butter and sugar in a large mixing bowl until light and fluffy.
- Add egg whites, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in vanilla extract.
- Alternate adding the dry ingredients and milk, starting and ending with the flour mixture. Stir in sour cream until just combined.
- Pour batter evenly into prepared cake pans and smooth the tops.
- Bake for 25–30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Cool cakes in pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Frost with your favorite white frosting, such as buttercream or whipped cream.
