Walnut Flip Cake Recipe

This easy-to-make cake is a delightful combination of moist, buttery cake with crunchy walnuts and a sweet glaze.

Ingredients:

  • For the Cake:
    • 2 cups all-purpose flour
    • 2 teaspoons baking powder
    • 1/2 teaspoon salt
    • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
    • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar  
    • 2 large eggs
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
    • 1/2 cup milk
    • 1 cup chopped walnuts
  • For the Glaze:
    • 1 cup powdered sugar
    • 2-3 tablespoons milk
    • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13 inch baking pan.
  2. Combine dry ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Cream butter and sugar: In a separate bowl, cream together softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add eggs and vanilla: Beat in eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla extract.
  5. Combine wet and dry ingredients: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the milk, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined, being careful not to overmix.  
  6. Fold in walnuts: Gently fold in the chopped walnuts.
  7. Bake: Pour batter into the prepared pan and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

8. Cool: Let the cake cool completely in the pan before glazing.  

  1. Make the glaze: In a small bowl, whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth. Adjust milk as needed to reach desired consistency.
  2. Glaze the cake: Pour the glaze over the cooled cake and let it set before cutting and serving.

  • For a richer flavor, use brown sugar instead of granulated sugar.
