- ½ cup cold butter (cubed)

- ½ cup Ultramel custard (plus extra for brushing)
- 1 tsp vanilla essence

Instructions
- Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F) and line a baking tray with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar, and salt.
- Rub in the butter with your fingertips until the mixture resembles fine crumbs.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together egg, Ultramel custard, and vanilla essence.
- Pour wet ingredients into the dry mixture and gently mix to form a soft dough. Add a little milk if the dough is too dry.
- Roll out lightly on a floured surface to about 2 cm thick.
- Cut out scones with a round cutter and place them on the prepared tray.
- Brush tops with a little Ultramel custard for a golden finish.
- Bake for 15–20 minutes or until risen and lightly golden.
- Serve warm with extra Ultramel custard, cream, or jam.
