This recipe takes the classic patty melt to new heights with flavorful caramelized onions, tangy pickles, and a secret sauce that will have you craving more.
Ingredients:
- For the Patty Melts:
- 4 slices rye bread
- 4 beef patties (about 1/4 lb each)
- 1 large onion, thinly sliced
- 4 slices Swiss cheese
- 4 dill pickle slices
- Butter or oil for cooking
- For the Secret Sauce:
- 1/4 cup mayonnaise
- 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
- 1 tablespoon ketchup
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
- Pinch of red pepper flakes (optional)
Instructions:
- Make the Secret Sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together all the ingredients for the secret sauce until well combined. Set aside.
- Cook the Onions: Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and cook, stirring occasionally, until they are softened and caramelized, about 15-20 minutes.
- Cook the Patties: While the onions are cooking, cook the beef patties in another skillet over medium heat until cooked through. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Assemble the Patty Melts:
- Spread a generous amount of secret sauce on one side of each slice of rye bread.
- Place the bread, sauce-side down, in a skillet or griddle over medium heat.
- Top each slice of bread with a beef patty, a layer of caramelized onions, a slice of Swiss cheese, and a dill pickle slice.
- Top with the remaining slices of bread, sauce-side up.
- Cook and Serve: Cook the patty melts for 2-3 minutes per side, or until the cheese is melted and the bread is golden brown and crispy.
- Remove from the heat and serve immediately.
