Ingredients
- 4 slices of rustic bread (sourdough or rye work well)
- 4 slices of ham or cooked bacon
- 4 slices of tomato
- 4 eggs
- 1 cup shredded cheese (Emmental, Gruyère, or cheddar)
- 2 tbsp butter
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- Chives or parsley (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Toast the bread slices lightly, either in a toaster or on a skillet with a bit of butter.
- Place the toasted bread on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Top each slice with a piece of ham or cooked bacon.
- Add a slice of tomato on top of the ham.
- Crack an egg over each sandwich (you can make a shallow dip in the toppings to hold the egg in place).
- Sprinkle generously with shredded cheese.
- Bake in the preheated oven for about 10–12 minutes, or until the egg whites are set and the cheese is melted and golden.
- Season with salt and pepper, garnish with chopped chives or parsley, and serve hot.
