Turkish Bread Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 500g all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet (7g) instant yeast
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 300ml warm water
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • Optional: sesame or nigella seeds for topping

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, yeast, sugar, and salt. Mix well. Gradually add warm water and olive oil, mixing continuously until a dough forms.
  2. Knead the dough: Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  3. First rise: Place the dough back into the bowl, cover with a clean towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  4. Shape the bread: Punch down the risen dough to release any air bubbles. Divide it into two equal portions. Shape each portion into a round or oval loaf, about 1 inch thick. Place the shaped dough on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  5. Second rise: Cover the loaves with a towel and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
  6. Preheat the oven: While the bread is rising, preheat your oven to 220°C (425°F).
  7. Optional topping: If desired, brush the loaves with a little water and sprinkle sesame or nigella seeds on top.
  8. Bake: Bake the bread in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown and hollow-sounding when tapped.
  9. Cool: Remove the bread from the oven and allow it to cool on a wire rack before serving.
