Triple Chocolate Cake

Ingredients

For the Cake:
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ¾ cups granulated sugar
  • ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup hot coffee (or hot water)
For the Chocolate Ganache:
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 8 oz dark chocolate, chopped
  • 1 tbsp unsalted butter
For the Chocolate Frosting:
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3 ½ cups powdered sugar
  • ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • ¼ cup heavy cream

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven & Prep Pans – Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. Make the Cake Batter – In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Mix Wet Ingredients – Add milk, oil, eggs, and vanilla. Mix until combined. Gradually add hot coffee, mixing until smooth.
  4. Bake – Divide batter evenly between prepared pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Let cakes cool in pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  5. Prepare Ganache – Heat heavy cream until steaming, then pour over chopped chocolate. Let sit for 2 minutes, then stir until smooth. Add butter and mix until glossy. Let cool slightly.
  6. Make the Frosting – Beat butter until creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar, cocoa powder, and salt. Mix in vanilla and heavy cream until smooth and fluffy.
  7. Assemble the Cake – Place one cake layer on a serving plate. Spread a layer of frosting, then place the second cake layer on top.
  8. Frost & Decorate – Spread remaining frosting over the cake. Pour cooled ganache over the top, letting it drip down the sides.
