This Bread is So Good, It Lasted Just 30 Minutes at My House

Ingredients

  • 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet (2 ¼ tsp) instant yeast
  • 1 ½ tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 cup warm water (110°F/45°C)
  • ¼ cup milk (warm)
  • 2 tbsp olive oil or melted butter
  • 1 egg (for egg wash, optional)
  • Sesame seeds or coarse salt (optional, for topping)

Instructions

1️⃣ Activate the yeast:

  • In a bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.

2️⃣ Mix the dough:

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Add in the yeast mixture, milk, and olive oil. Mix until a shaggy dough forms.

3️⃣ Knead the dough:

  • Knead for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic. If the dough is sticky, add a tablespoon of flour at a time.

4️⃣ First rise:

  • Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a towel, and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.

5️⃣ Shape the bread:

  • Punch down the dough and shape it into a loaf or rolls. Place on a baking tray lined with parchment paper.

6️⃣ Second rise:

  • Let it rise again for 20-30 minutes. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

7️⃣ Egg wash & bake:

  • Brush the top with an egg wash (1 egg beaten with a splash of water) for a golden crust. Sprinkle with sesame seeds or coarse salt if desired.
  • Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown and hollow-sounding when tapped.

8️⃣ Cool slightly & enjoy:

  • Let the bread cool for 10 minutes (if you can wait that long!) before slicing.

Tip: This bread is perfect for sandwiches, dipping in soup, or just slathering with butter while still warm.
