This Thai-inspired steamed fish is light, flavorful, and aromatic, combining the zestiness of lime, the kick of garlic, and the freshness of herbs. It’s perfect for a healthy, quick, and delicious meal that embodies the balance of Thai cuisine.
Ingredients
- 4 white fish fillets (like tilapia, snapper, or cod)
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons fresh lime juice
- 1 tablespoon fish sauce
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon sugar (optional)
- 1 fresh red chili, thinly sliced (adjust for spice level)
- 1-inch piece of fresh ginger, grated
- 2 tablespoons fresh cilantro, chopped
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 1 tablespoon green onions, chopped (for garnish)
- Lime wedges (for serving)
Instructions
- Prepare the fish: Pat the fish fillets dry with paper towels and set aside.
- Make the sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together the lime juice, fish sauce, soy sauce, sugar (if using), and sesame oil. Add the minced garlic, grated ginger, and sliced chili.
- Steam the fish: Place the fish fillets in a steaming basket or steamer. Pour the lime-garlic sauce over the fish, making sure the fillets are evenly coated. Steam over simmering water for about 8-10 minutes, or until the fish is cooked through and flakes easily with a fork.
- Garnish and serve: Once done, remove the fish from the steamer and place it on a serving plate. Sprinkle with chopped cilantro, green onions, and serve with lime wedges on the side.
