Swedish Meatballs 2

Ingredients

For the Meatballs:

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 lb ground pork
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp allspice
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 2 tbsp butter (for frying)

For the Gravy:

  • 3 tbsp butter
  • 3 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Make the Meatballs:
    • In a small bowl, combine breadcrumbs and milk. Let sit for 5 minutes to absorb.
    • In a large bowl, mix ground beef, ground pork, soaked breadcrumbs, onion, egg, garlic powder, allspice, nutmeg, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined.
    • Roll into 1-inch meatballs and place on a tray.
  2. Cook the Meatballs:
    • In a large skillet over medium heat, melt 2 tbsp butter.
    • Add the meatballs in batches and cook until browned on all sides and cooked through (about 7–8 minutes). Remove and set aside.
  3. Make the Gravy:
    • In the same skillet, melt 3 tbsp butter.
    • Whisk in flour and cook for 1–2 minutes until golden brown.
    • Gradually whisk in beef broth, then add cream, Worcestershire sauce, and Dijon mustard.
    • Simmer for 5–7 minutes until thickened. Season with salt and pepper.
  4. Combine:
    • Return meatballs to the skillet and simmer in the gravy for 5 minutes to heat through.

Serve with: Mashed potatoes, buttered noodles, or lingonberry jam for an authentic touch!
