Ingredients
- 4 medium apples (peeled, cored, and sliced)
- 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ½ cup unsalted butter, melted
- ¼ cup milk
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar (for sprinkling)
- Powdered sugar (optional, for serving)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour an 8-inch round cake pan or line it with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
- In another bowl, whisk the eggs, vanilla extract, melted butter, and milk until smooth.
- Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until well combined. The batter will be thick.
- Pour half of the batter into the prepared cake pan, spreading it evenly.
- Layer half of the apple slices on top of the batter.
- Add the remaining batter and top with the rest of the apple slices.
- Sprinkle the brown sugar evenly over the apples.
- Bake in the preheated oven for about 45-50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean and the top is golden brown.
- Allow the cake to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Optionally, dust with powdered sugar before serving.
