Ingredients
- 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
- ½ cup milk (whole or 2%)
- 2 large eggs, room temperature
- 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
- 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- Optional: powdered sugar for dusting
Instructions
- Preheat oven:
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease an 8×8-inch (or similar) baking pan and line with parchment paper for easy removal. - Cream butter and sugar:
In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy (about 2–3 minutes). - Add eggs and vanilla:
Beat in the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract. - Combine dry ingredients:
In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. - Mix wet and dry ingredients:
Add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture in batches, alternating with the milk. Begin and end with the flour. Mix until just combined — don’t overmix. - Bake:
Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and smooth the top. Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. - Cool and serve:
Allow the cake to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely. Dust with powdered sugar if desired. Slice and enjoy!
Tip: This cake is delicious warm with a cup of tea or coffee — perfect for a cozy breakfast or brunch!
