Ingredients
- 1½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- ½ tsp baking soda
- ¼ tsp salt
- ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
- ¾ cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 2 tsp pure vanilla extract
- ½ cup plain yogurt or sour cream
- ¼ cup milk (any kind)

Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line an 8-inch square or round baking pan with parchment paper.
- Mix dry ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
- Cream butter and sugar: In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter and sugar together until light and fluffy (about 2-3 minutes).
- Add eggs and vanilla: Beat in the eggs one at a time, then add vanilla extract and mix until smooth.
- Combine wet and dry: Add the yogurt (or sour cream) and milk, then gradually mix in the dry ingredients until just combined. Do not overmix.
- Pour and smooth: Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top with a spatula.
- Bake: Bake for 25–30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Cool and serve: Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack. Dust with powdered sugar before serving if desired.
