Sugar Coated Fried Dough Recipe

These sweet and crispy fried dough treats are a delightful snack or dessert, perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup milk (or water)
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter (or vegetable oil)
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar (for coating)
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional, for coating)

Instructions:

  1. Combine dry ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, 1/4 cup sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  2. Add wet ingredients: Stir in the milk and melted butter (or oil) until a soft dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough: Lightly flour a clean surface. Turn the dough out onto the floured surface and knead for 2-3 minutes, or until smooth.
  4. Roll out the dough: Roll the dough out to about 1/4-inch thickness.
  5. Cut the dough: Cut the dough into desired shapes (squares, strips, or circles) using a knife or cookie cutter.
  6. Heat the oil: Pour enough vegetable oil into a deep frying pan or pot to reach a depth of about 2 inches. Heat the oil over medium heat until it reaches approximately 350°F (175°C). You can test the oil by dropping a small piece of dough into it; if it sizzles and floats to the surface, the oil is ready.
  7. Fry the dough: Carefully add the dough pieces to the hot oil, a few at a time, being careful not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for 2-3 minutes per side, or until golden brown.
  8. Drain the dough: Remove the fried dough from the oil using a slotted spoon and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.
  9. Coat with sugar: In a shallow dish, combine the 1/2 cup sugar and cinnamon (if using). While the fried dough is still warm, toss them in the sugar mixture until evenly coated.
  10. Serve: Serve immediately and enjoy!
