Ingredients
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder (for batter)
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/3 cup melted butter
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder (for topping)
- 1 3/4 cups boiling water
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9×9-inch baking dish.
- Prepare the Batter:
- In a medium mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, salt, granulated sugar, and 2 tablespoons of cocoa powder.
- Stir in the milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract until the mixture is smooth.
- Pour the batter evenly into the prepared baking dish.
- Add the Topping:
- In a separate bowl, mix the brown sugar and 1/4 cup cocoa powder. Sprinkle this mixture evenly over the batter.
- Pour the Water:
- Slowly pour the boiling water over the entire dish. Do not stir; the water will create a self-saucing layer as it bakes.
- Bake:
- Bake in the preheated oven for 35–40 minutes or until the top is set and firm but the bottom layer remains gooey.
- Serve:
- Let the cobbler cool for 5–10 minutes before serving. The chocolate sauce will thicken as it sits. Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream for the perfect dessert!
