Ingredients:
- 4 cups all-purpose flour, plus more for dusting
- 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup whole milk, warmed (about 110°F)
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted and divided
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
Instructions:
- Activate the Yeast: In a small bowl, combine the warm milk and sugar. Sprinkle the yeast over the top and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
- Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour and salt.
- Combine Wet Ingredients: In another bowl, mix the melted butter (reserving 2 tablespoons for brushing), eggs, and vanilla extract (if using). Add the yeast mixture once it’s frothy.
- Make the Dough: Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until a dough forms. If the dough is too sticky, add a little more flour, one tablespoon at a time, until it’s manageable.
- Knead the Dough: Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes, or until it’s smooth and elastic.
- First Rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1-2 hours, or until it has doubled in size.
- Shape the Rolls: Once risen, punch down the dough to release air. Divide it into 12-16 equal pieces and shape each piece into a ball. Place the rolls in a greased 9×13 inch baking dish or on a lined baking sheet, spaced apart.
- Second Rise: Cover the shaped rolls with a towel and let them rise for another 30-45 minutes, until they puff up.
- Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) while the rolls are rising.
- Bake: Once the rolls have risen, brush the tops with the reserved melted butter. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until they are golden brown.
- Cool and Serve: Remove the rolls from the oven and brush with more melted butter, if desired. Let them cool slightly before serving warm.
Enjoy your delicious soft and buttery yeast rolls!
