Instructions
- Mix Dry Ingredients: In a medium saucepan (off heat), whisk together sugar, cornstarch, and salt.
- Add Milk: Gradually whisk in the milk until smooth and no lumps remain.
- Cook the Mixture: Place the saucepan over medium heat. Stir constantly with a whisk or wooden spoon until the mixture thickens and starts to bubble—about 5–7 minutes.
- Add Butter and Vanilla: Once thickened, remove from heat. Stir in butter and vanilla extract until fully combined.
- Chill: Pour the pudding into small serving dishes or ramekins. Cover with plastic wrap (pressing it directly onto the surface to prevent skin formation).
- Refrigerate: Chill for at least 1–2 hours until set.
