Ingredients
– 4 large russet potatoes (washed and unpeeled)
– 3 tablespoons unsalted butter (melted)
– 2 tablespoons olive oil
– 4 cloves garlic (minced)
– 1 teaspoon salt (or to taste)
– ½ teaspoon black pepper
– 1 teaspoon dried oregano
– 1 teaspoon paprika (optional for color and flavor)
– 2 tablespoons fresh parsley (chopped, for garnish)
– Grated cheese (optional, for topping)
– Sour cream or dipping sauce (optional, for serving)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
Start by preheating your oven to ensure it’s hot and ready by the time your potatoes are sliced and seasoned. - Prepare the baking tray.
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it with oil to prevent sticking. - Wash and slice the potatoes.
Thoroughly wash the potatoes under running water to remove dirt. Keep the skin on for texture and nutrition. Slice each potato thinly, about ⅛ to ¼ inch apart, without cutting all the way through. You can place the potato between two wooden spoons or chopsticks to prevent slicing all the way down. - Make the garlic butter mixture.
In a small bowl, mix the melted butter, olive oil, minced garlic, salt, pepper, oregano, and paprika. Stir well to combine the flavors. - Brush the potatoes with the mixture.
Carefully fan out the potato slices and use a brush or spoon to drizzle the garlic butter mixture between the slices and over the top of each potato. Make sure to coat them evenly for maximum flavor. - Bake the potatoes.
Place the prepared potatoes on the baking tray and bake in the preheated oven for 50–60 minutes. The exact time may vary based on the size and thickness of your potatoes. You’ll know they’re done when the slices are tender on the inside and crisp on the edges. - Add cheese (optional).
If you’d like to add cheese, remove the potatoes from the oven about 10 minutes before they’re fully cooked. Sprinkle shredded cheese over the top and return to the oven to melt and slightly brown the cheese. - Garnish and serve.
Once baked to perfection, remove the potatoes from the oven and let them cool for a few minutes. Garnish with freshly chopped parsley for a burst of color and freshness. Serve hot with sour cream or your favorite dipping sauce on the side.
