Ingredients
- 5 tablespoons of sugar
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 cup hot water
- 1 packet of dry yeast
- Some fresh or dried leaves (e.g., bay leaves, neem leaves, or mint — commonly used for pest repellent)
- 1 empty 2-liter plastic bottle
Instructions
- Boil the leaves in 1 cup of hot water for about 5–10 minutes to release their natural oils and scent.
- Let the boiled mixture cool slightly.
- In a bowl, mix the sugar and baking powder.
- Add the dry yeast to the mixture.
- Cut the top off the empty 2-liter plastic bottle and invert it to make a funnel.
- Pour the boiled leaf liquid into the bottle, then add the sugar, baking powder, and yeast mixture. Stir gently.
- Place the inverted top back onto the bottle (like a funnel) — pests will be attracted inside but can’t escape.
- Place the bottle trap in corners, near windows, or anywhere you notice flies, mosquitoes, or cockroaches.
✅ Tip: This works because the sugar and yeast produce carbon dioxide, attracting pests, while the scent of the boiled leaves helps repel or confuse them. The baking powder can also help kill pests that ingest the mixture.
