Ingredients
- 1 lb (450g) ground beef
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1/2 tsp smoked paprika (optional)
- 1/4 tsp chili flakes (optional)
- 1 tbsp tomato paste
- 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped (or 2 tsp dried)
- 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, or a mix)
- 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a skillet over medium heat, heat olive oil. Add chopped onion and sauté for 3–4 minutes until soft. Add garlic and cook for 30 seconds.
- Add ground beef to the skillet. Cook until browned, breaking it apart as it cooks.
- Stir in tomato paste, salt, pepper, paprika, and chili flakes. Cook for another 2 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
- Stir in chopped parsley and shredded cheese once the beef mixture has cooled.
- Roll out puff pastry on a lightly floured surface. Spoon the beef and cheese mixture evenly along one long side, leaving a 1-inch border.
- Roll the pastry over the filling to form a log. Press to seal the edge and place seam-side down on the baking sheet.
- Beat the egg and brush it over the pastry for a golden crust.
- Score the top lightly with a knife (optional) for decoration.
- Bake for 25–30 minutes or until golden and puffed. Let cool slightly before slicing.
