Savory Ground Beef & Cheese Puff Pastry Roll

Ingredients

  • 1 lb (450g) ground beef
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp smoked paprika (optional)
  • 1/4 tsp chili flakes (optional)
  • 1 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped (or 2 tsp dried)
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, or a mix)
  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, heat olive oil. Add chopped onion and sauté for 3–4 minutes until soft. Add garlic and cook for 30 seconds.
  3. Add ground beef to the skillet. Cook until browned, breaking it apart as it cooks.
  4. Stir in tomato paste, salt, pepper, paprika, and chili flakes. Cook for another 2 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  5. Stir in chopped parsley and shredded cheese once the beef mixture has cooled.
  6. Roll out puff pastry on a lightly floured surface. Spoon the beef and cheese mixture evenly along one long side, leaving a 1-inch border.
  7. Roll the pastry over the filling to form a log. Press to seal the edge and place seam-side down on the baking sheet.
  8. Beat the egg and brush it over the pastry for a golden crust.
  9. Score the top lightly with a knife (optional) for decoration.
  10. Bake for 25–30 minutes or until golden and puffed. Let cool slightly before slicing.
