Sausage rolls are a classic snack or appetizer, loved for their flaky, golden pastry and savory filling. Perfect for parties or a quick treat!
Ingredients:
- 1 lb (450g) sausage meat
- 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp pepper
- 1/2 tsp dried herbs (optional: thyme, sage, or parsley)
- 1 tbsp breadcrumbs (optional, for texture)
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a bowl, mix the sausage meat with salt, pepper, and herbs. Add breadcrumbs if desired.
- Roll out the puff pastry on a lightly floured surface. Cut it into two long strips.
- Divide the sausage mixture in half and shape each portion into a log that runs along the length of the pastry strips.
- Wrap the pastry around the sausage filling, overlapping slightly, and seal the edge by pressing it together.
- Cut the roll into smaller pieces, about 2 inches long, and place them seam-side down on the baking sheet.
- Brush the tops with the beaten egg for a golden finish.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the pastry is puffed and golden brown, and the sausage is cooked through.
- Cool slightly before serving. Enjoy!
