Sausage rolls are a classic snack or appetizer, loved for their flaky, golden pastry and savory filling. Perfect for parties or a quick treat!

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb (450g) sausage meat
  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp pepper
  • 1/2 tsp dried herbs (optional: thyme, sage, or parsley)
  • 1 tbsp breadcrumbs (optional, for texture)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, mix the sausage meat with salt, pepper, and herbs. Add breadcrumbs if desired.
  3. Roll out the puff pastry on a lightly floured surface. Cut it into two long strips.
  4. Divide the sausage mixture in half and shape each portion into a log that runs along the length of the pastry strips.
  5. Wrap the pastry around the sausage filling, overlapping slightly, and seal the edge by pressing it together.
  6. Cut the roll into smaller pieces, about 2 inches long, and place them seam-side down on the baking sheet.
  7. Brush the tops with the beaten egg for a golden finish.
  8. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the pastry is puffed and golden brown, and the sausage is cooked through.
