- 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup unsalted butter, melted and slightly cooled
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 1 large egg + 1 egg yolk
- 1 1/2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1 cup soft caramel candies, chopped (or caramel bits)
- Flaky sea salt, for sprinkling
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Mix dry ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
- Prepare wet mixture: In a large bowl, combine melted butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar. Beat until smooth and creamy.
- Add eggs and vanilla: Beat in the egg, egg yolk, and vanilla extract until well combined.
- Combine dry and wet: Gradually mix in the dry ingredients until just combined. Avoid overmixing.
- Add mix-ins: Fold in the chocolate chips and chopped caramel pieces.
- Scoop dough: Scoop tablespoon-sized balls of dough onto the prepared baking sheets, leaving space in between.
- Bake: Bake for 10–12 minutes or until edges are golden brown but centers are still soft.
- Salt and cool: Remove from oven and immediately sprinkle a pinch of flaky sea salt on top of each cookie. Let them cool on the sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
