Ingredients
- 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- ¼ cup vegetable oil (or olive oil)
- ½ tsp baking powder
- ½ tsp salt (plus more for sprinkling on top)
- ½ cup cold water (adjust as needed)
- Optional: ½ tsp garlic powder or dried herbs (for extra flavor)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Mix dry ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. Add herbs or garlic powder if using.
- Add oil: Pour in the vegetable oil and mix until the dough is crumbly.
- Add water: Gradually add cold water, stirring until a soft dough forms. You may not need the full ½ cup.
- Roll the dough: Lightly flour a surface and roll the dough out thin (about 1/8 inch or 3mm thick).
- Cut into shapes: Use a knife or cookie cutter to cut the dough into small crackers or cookie shapes.
- Transfer to baking sheet: Place the shapes on your prepared baking tray. Prick with a fork to prevent puffing. Lightly sprinkle with salt on top.
- Bake: Bake for 15–18 minutes or until golden brown and crispy. Thinner pieces may cook faster—watch closely!
- Cool and store: Let cool completely before storing in an airtight container.
Tips:
- Want them sweet? Add 2 tbsp sugar and skip the salt topping.
- Make them cheesy by adding 2 tbsp nutritional yeast or grated dairy-free cheese.
