Salmon Mornay Pasta Bake Recipe

A creamy, comforting dish perfect for family dinners or potlucks. This Salmon Mornay Pasta Bake combines tender pasta, rich salmon, and a cheesy mornay sauce, all baked to golden perfection.

Ingredients:

  • 300g pasta (penne or fusilli works well)
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp plain flour
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup grated cheese (cheddar or Gruyère)
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 can (200g) pink or red salmon, drained and flaked
  • 1 cup frozen peas (optional)
  • 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 tbsp olive oil (for breadcrumbs)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). Grease a large baking dish.
  2. Cook the pasta according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  3. In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes to form a roux.
  4. Gradually whisk in the milk, stirring continuously until the sauce thickens.
  5. Remove from heat and stir in the grated cheese, Parmesan, mustard, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until smooth.
  6. Combine the cooked pasta, salmon, and peas in a large bowl. Pour the mornay sauce over the mixture and stir until well coated.
  7. Transfer the mixture to the prepared baking dish.
  8. In a small bowl, mix breadcrumbs with olive oil, then sprinkle over the top.
  9. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden and bubbling.
  10. Let cool for a few minutes before serving.
