A creamy, comforting dish perfect for family dinners or potlucks. This Salmon Mornay Pasta Bake combines tender pasta, rich salmon, and a cheesy mornay sauce, all baked to golden perfection.
Ingredients:
- 300g pasta (penne or fusilli works well)
- 2 tbsp butter
- 2 tbsp plain flour
- 2 cups milk
- 1/2 cup grated cheese (cheddar or Gruyère)
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 tsp Dijon mustard
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 1 can (200g) pink or red salmon, drained and flaked
- 1 cup frozen peas (optional)
- 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 tbsp olive oil (for breadcrumbs)
Instructions:
- Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). Grease a large baking dish.
- Cook the pasta according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
- In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes to form a roux.
- Gradually whisk in the milk, stirring continuously until the sauce thickens.
- Remove from heat and stir in the grated cheese, Parmesan, mustard, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until smooth.
- Combine the cooked pasta, salmon, and peas in a large bowl. Pour the mornay sauce over the mixture and stir until well coated.
- Transfer the mixture to the prepared baking dish.
- In a small bowl, mix breadcrumbs with olive oil, then sprinkle over the top.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden and bubbling.
