Red Velvet Cream Cheese Brownies recipe

Ingredients

For the Red Velvet Brownie Layer:

  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tbsp red food coloring
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 tsp salt

For the Cream Cheese Swirl:

  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven:
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line an 8×8-inch baking pan with parchment paper or lightly grease it.
  2. Make the Red Velvet Layer:
In a large bowl, whisk together the melted butter and sugar until smooth. Add the eggs, vanilla extract, and red food coloring. Mix well.
Sift in the cocoa powder, flour, and salt. Stir until just combined. Reserve 1/4 cup of this batter and set aside.
  3. Spread the Batter:
Pour the remaining red velvet batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top with a spatula.
  4. Make the Cream Cheese Layer:
In a separate bowl, beat the cream cheese, sugar, egg, and vanilla extract until smooth and creamy.
  5. Layer and Swirl:
Gently pour the cream cheese mixture over the red velvet base. Dollop the reserved red velvet batter on top, then use a knife or skewer to swirl it through the cream cheese layer for a marbled effect.
  6. Bake:
Bake for 30–35 minutes, or until the center is set and a toothpick inserted comes out mostly clean (a few moist crumbs are okay).
  7. Cool & Serve:
Let cool completely in the pan before slicing. For best results, chill for 1–2 hours before cutting into squares.
