Potato and Onion recipe

A comforting and flavorful side dish made with tender potatoes and caramelized onions. This recipe is easy to prepare and pairs well with any main course.

Ingredients

  • 4 medium-sized potatoes (Yukon Gold or Russet), peeled and sliced thin
  • 2 large onions, thinly sliced
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil (or butter for richer flavor)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced (optional)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme or rosemary (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Ingredients:
  • Peel and thinly slice the potatoes. Set aside in a bowl of water to prevent browning.
  • Thinly slice the onions and mince the garlic (if using).
  1. Heat the Pan:
  • Heat the olive oil (or butter) in a large skillet over medium heat.
  1. Cook the Onions:
  • Add the onions to the pan and cook, stirring occasionally, for about 10-12 minutes until they become soft and golden brown. Add the garlic during the last 2 minutes, if using. Season with a pinch of salt and pepper.
  1. Cook the Potatoes:
  • Drain and pat the potato slices dry. Add them to the pan with the onions. Toss everything together, ensuring the potatoes are evenly coated with oil.
  • Cook for about 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the potatoes are tender and slightly crispy around the edges. Add thyme or rosemary if desired.
  1. Finish and Serve:
  • Once the potatoes are fully cooked, adjust seasoning with salt and pepper to taste.
  • Garnish with fresh parsley and a sprinkle of Parmesan cheese if you like.

Enjoy your Potato and Onion dish as a delicious side to any meal!
