Philly Cheesesteak Sloppy Joes

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef (or ground chicken/turkey)
  • 1 medium onion, finely diced
  • 1 green bell pepper, diced
  • 1 cup mushrooms, diced (optional)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp ketchup
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch (mixed with 2 tbsp beef broth) – for thickening
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • Salt & black pepper, to taste
  • 1 cup provolone cheese (or mozzarella/cheddar), shredded
  • 4 hamburger buns, toasted with butter

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, cook ground beef over medium heat until browned. Drain excess grease.
  2. Add onions, bell peppers, mushrooms, and garlic. Sauté for 4–5 minutes until tender.
  3. Stir in Worcestershire sauce, ketchup, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
  4. Pour in beef broth, then add the cornstarch slurry. Stir and let simmer until the mixture thickens (about 3–5 minutes).
  5. Sprinkle shredded provolone cheese on top and let melt into the beef mixture. Stir to combine.
  6. Spoon the cheesy beef mixture onto toasted buns.
