Philly Cheesesteak Egg Rolls Recipe

These Philly Cheesesteak Egg Rolls are a fun and delicious twist on the classic sandwich. They feature a savory filling of thinly sliced steak, sautéed onions, and melted cheese, all wrapped in crispy egg roll wrappers. Perfect as an appetizer or party snack.

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound thinly sliced ribeye steak (or other tender beef)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 8 ounces provolone cheese, sliced or shredded
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 package (16 ounces) egg roll wrappers
  • Vegetable oil, for frying

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Filling: Season the thinly sliced steak with salt and pepper. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the steak and cook until browned, about 2-3 minutes per side. Remove the steak from the skillet and set aside.
  2. Sauté Onions and Garlic: In the same skillet, add the sliced onions and cook until softened, about 5-7 minutes. Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
  3. Combine Filling Ingredients: Return the cooked steak to the skillet with the sautéed onions and garlic. Stir in the Worcestershire sauce.
  4. Melt the Cheese: Reduce heat to low. Add the provolone cheese to the steak and onion mixture. Stir until the cheese is melted and everything is well combined.
  5. Assemble the Egg Rolls: Lay an egg roll wrapper on a clean surface. Place about 2-3 tablespoons of the filling in the center of the wrapper.
  6. Fold and Seal: Fold the bottom corner of the wrapper over the filling. Fold in the sides of the wrapper towards the center. Roll the wrapper up tightly like a cigar until it’s completely sealed. Dab the top edge with water or an egg wash (1 egg beaten with 1 tablespoon water) to seal.
  7. Fry the Egg Rolls: Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet or deep fryer over medium-high heat (350°F/175°C). Carefully place the egg rolls in the hot oil, seam-side down, and fry until golden brown and crispy on all sides, about 2-3 minutes per side.
  8. Drain and Serve: Remove the egg rolls from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Serve hot.

Tips and Notes:

  • Steak Choice: Use a tender cut of beef like ribeye for the best results. Slice it thinly against the grain for easier chewing.
  • Cheese Variations: You can use other cheeses like mozzarella, white American, or Cheez Whiz instead of provolone.
  • Add Vegetables: You can add other vegetables like bell peppers or mushrooms to the filling.
  • Make Ahead: You can prepare the filling ahead of time and store it in the refrigerator until ready to use. Assemble and fry the egg rolls just before serving.
  • Baking Option: For a healthier option, you can bake the egg rolls instead of frying. Brush them with oil and bake at 400°F (200°C) for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.
  • Serving Suggestions: Serve the Philly Cheesesteak Egg Rolls with your favorite dipping sauces, such as ketchup, spicy mayo, or a cheese sauce.
