Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 tbsp melted butter
  • Oil for frying (vegetable or canola)
  • Optional: cinnamon sugar or powdered sugar for coating

Instructions

  1. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  2. Mix Wet Ingredients: In another bowl, whisk milk, egg, vanilla extract, and melted butter.
  3. Combine: Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients. Stir just until combined—don’t overmix.
  4. Heat Oil: Heat oil in a deep pan or pot to 350°F (175°C). Use a small cookie scoop or spoon to carefully drop small amounts of batter into the hot oil.
  5. Fry: Fry in batches, turning occasionally, until doughnuts are golden brown (about 2–3 minutes per side).
  6. Drain: Use a slotted spoon to remove doughnuts and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil.
  7. Coat: While still warm, roll in cinnamon sugar or dust with powdered sugar.
