Perfect Baked Potato recipe

Ingredients

  • 4 large Russet potatoes
  • 2 tbsp olive oil or melted butter
  • Salt (preferably coarse or sea salt)
  • Freshly ground black pepper (optional)
  • Toppings of choice: sour cream, shredded cheese, chives, bacon bits, butter, etc.

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven
    Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. Prepare the Potatoes
    Scrub the potatoes clean and pat them dry with a towel. Use a fork to prick each potato 6–8 times all over to allow steam to escape during baking.
  3. Season
    Rub each potato with olive oil or melted butter. Sprinkle generously with salt and a little black pepper if desired.
  4. Bake
    Place the potatoes directly on the oven rack or on a baking sheet lined with foil. Bake for 45 to 60 minutes, or until the skins are crispy and a knife slides easily into the center.
  5. Serve
    Remove from oven, slice open the top, fluff the inside with a fork, and add your favorite toppings.
