Ingredients
- 4 large Russet potatoes
- 2 tbsp olive oil or melted butter
- Salt (preferably coarse or sea salt)
- Freshly ground black pepper (optional)
- Toppings of choice: sour cream, shredded cheese, chives, bacon bits, butter, etc.
Instructions
- Preheat Oven
Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). - Prepare the Potatoes
Scrub the potatoes clean and pat them dry with a towel. Use a fork to prick each potato 6–8 times all over to allow steam to escape during baking. - Season
Rub each potato with olive oil or melted butter. Sprinkle generously with salt and a little black pepper if desired. - Bake
Place the potatoes directly on the oven rack or on a baking sheet lined with foil. Bake for 45 to 60 minutes, or until the skins are crispy and a knife slides easily into the center. - Serve
Remove from oven, slice open the top, fluff the inside with a fork, and add your favorite toppings.
