Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tbsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed
- 1 tbsp orange zest (from about 1 large orange)
- 2/3 cup heavy cream (plus more for brushing)
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- Optional: 1/2 cup dried cranberries or white chocolate chips
For the Orange Glaze:
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2–3 tbsp fresh orange juice
- 1/2 tsp orange zest
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
- Cut in the butter using a pastry cutter or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Stir in the orange zest. If you’re adding cranberries or white chocolate chips, fold them in now.
- In a small bowl, whisk together the cream, egg, and vanilla extract.
- Add wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix gently with a fork until just combined. Do not overmix.
- Turn the dough onto a floured surface, gently knead a few times, then pat into a 1-inch thick circle.
- Cut into 8 wedges and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
- Brush tops with a little heavy cream for a golden finish.
- Bake for 15–18 minutes, or until edges are golden brown.
- Cool slightly, then drizzle with the orange glaze.
