Orange Scones recipe with a nice layout

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed
  • 1 tbsp orange zest (from about 1 large orange)
  • 2/3 cup heavy cream (plus more for brushing)
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Optional: 1/2 cup dried cranberries or white chocolate chips

For the Orange Glaze:

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2–3 tbsp fresh orange juice
  • 1/2 tsp orange zest

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Cut in the butter using a pastry cutter or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Stir in the orange zest. If you’re adding cranberries or white chocolate chips, fold them in now.
  5. In a small bowl, whisk together the cream, egg, and vanilla extract.
  6. Add wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix gently with a fork until just combined. Do not overmix.
  7. Turn the dough onto a floured surface, gently knead a few times, then pat into a 1-inch thick circle.
  8. Cut into 8 wedges and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
  9. Brush tops with a little heavy cream for a golden finish.
  10. Bake for 15–18 minutes, or until edges are golden brown.
  11. Cool slightly, then drizzle with the orange glaze.
