Orange Flan Cake Recipe

This Orange Flan Cake is a delightful fusion of a classic flan and a moist, citrusy cake. The sweet, tangy orange flavor is perfectly balanced with the creamy custard.

Ingredients:

For the Cake:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup fresh orange juice
  • 1/4 cup grated orange zest

For the Flan:

  • 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 can (12 oz) evaporated milk
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup fresh orange juice
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions:

Prepare the Cake:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the orange juice and zest. Mix until just combined.
  5. Pour batter into prepared pan and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  6. Let cool completely in the pan before inverting onto a serving plate.

Prepare the Flan:

  1. In a blender, combine condensed milk, evaporated milk, eggs, orange juice, vanilla, and salt. Blend until smooth.
  2. Pour the flan mixture over the cooled cake, ensuring it covers the entire surface.
  3. Place the cake pan in a larger baking pan and fill with hot water, reaching halfway up the sides of the cake pan.
  4. Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until the flan is set.
  5. Remove from the water bath and let cool completely before refrigerating for at least 2 hours.

Serve: Serve chilled, dusted with powdered sugar, and garnished with orange zest or fresh orange slices.

Tips:

  • For a richer flavor, use freshly squeezed orange juice.
  • To prevent the flan from cracking, avoid overbaking.
  • For a more intense orange flavor, add a teaspoon of orange extract to the flan mixture.

Enjoy this delicious and refreshing dessert!
