Orange Cupcakes Recipe

These moist and flavorful orange cupcakes are perfect for any occasion. The bright citrus flavor is sure to delight your taste buds!

Ingredients:

  • For the Cupcakes:
    • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
    • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
    • 1/4 teaspoon salt
    • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened
    • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
    • 2 large eggs
    • 1/2 cup milk
    • 1/4 cup fresh orange juice
    • 2 tablespoons orange zest
  • For the Frosting:
    • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened
    • 3 cups powdered sugar
    • 1/4 cup fresh orange juice
    • 1 tablespoon orange zest

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Cupcakes: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a muffin tin with cupcake liners.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the milk, orange juice, and orange zest.  
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  5. Fill each cupcake liner about 2/3 full. Bake for 18-20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  6. Let the cupcakes cool in the tin for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.  
  7. Make the Frosting: In a large bowl, beat the butter until smooth. Gradually add the powdered sugar, beating until creamy. Stir in the orange juice and orange zest.
  8. Frost the cooled cupcakes and enjoy!

Optional:

  • Add a teaspoon of vanilla extract to the cupcake batter for extra flavor.
  • Use orange extract in the frosting for a more intense orange flavor.
  • Garnish the cupcakes with orange zest or a candied orange slice.
