Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tbsp orange zest
  • ½ cup fresh orange juice
  • ½ cup whole milk or buttermilk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour an 8-inch round cake pan.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a separate large bowl, beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the orange zest and vanilla extract.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with orange juice and milk. Mix until just combined.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top.
  7. Bake for 30–35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  8. Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  9. Optional: Dust with powdered sugar or drizzle with an orange glaze before serving.
