Ingredients
- 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
- 2 large eggs
- ½ cup fresh orange juice
- 2 tablespoons orange zest
- 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
- ½ teaspoon baking soda
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- ½ cup plain yogurt or sour cream
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Optional Glaze:
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2–3 tablespoons orange juice
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour an 8-inch round or square cake pan.
- Mix dry ingredients: In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
- Cream butter and sugar: In a large bowl, beat the softened butter and sugar together until light and fluffy.
- Add eggs and flavor: Beat in eggs one at a time, then add orange zest and vanilla extract.
- Incorporate liquids: Mix in the orange juice and yogurt (or sour cream) until well combined.
- Combine with dry ingredients: Gradually add the dry mixture into the wet ingredients, stirring just until combined.
- Bake: Pour the batter into the prepared pan. Bake for 30–35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Cool: Let the cake cool in the pan for about 10 minutes, then turn out onto a wire rack to cool completely.
- Optional glaze: If using, whisk powdered sugar and orange juice together to form a glaze. Drizzle over the cooled cake.
