Ingredients

Dough:

  • 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 packet (2 ¼ tsp) active dry yeast
  • ½ cup warm milk (110°F)
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • ½ tsp salt

Filling:

  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp cinnamon
  • ½ tsp nutmeg (optional)

Glaze:

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp milk
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dough:
    • In a small bowl, dissolve yeast in warm milk with a pinch of sugar. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
    • In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar, and salt. Add melted butter, egg, and the yeast mixture. Stir until combined.
    • Knead the dough for about 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Cover and let rise in a warm place for 1–1.5 hours or until doubled in size.
  2. Make the Filling:
    • In a bowl, mix softened butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg (if using).
  3. Assemble the Rolls:
    • Roll out the dough into a 12×18-inch rectangle. Spread the filling evenly over the surface.
    • Roll the dough tightly from the long side and slice into 12 even pieces.
    • Arrange rolls in a greased baking dish, cover, and let rise for 30 minutes.
  4. Bake:
    • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
    • Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until golden brown.
  5. Glaze and Serve:
    • Mix powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth. Drizzle over warm cinnamon buns.
