Ingredients
- 1 medium onion (yellow or white)
- 2 cups water
- 1–2 teaspoons honey (optional, for taste)
- 1–2 slices fresh ginger (optional, for extra soothing effect)
- 1 small piece of cinnamon stick (optional, for flavor)
- Juice of half a lemon (optional, for vitamin C boost)
Instructions
- Peel the onion and cut it into quarters or large chunks.
- In a small pot, bring the 2 cups of water to a boil.
- Add the chopped onion (and ginger or cinnamon if using) to the boiling water.
- Reduce heat and let it simmer for about 10–15 minutes.
- Remove from heat and strain the tea into a cup or mug.
- Stir in honey and lemon juice if desired.
- Sip the tea warm, 1–2 times daily to help soothe a bad cough.
Tip: Onion tea has a strong flavor, but adding honey and lemon makes it more palatable and adds extra soothing properties!
