This homemade onion hair oil is a natural remedy that helps stimulate hair growth, reduce hair fall, and nourish the scalp. Onion contains sulfur, which boosts collagen production and strengthens hair roots. When combined with nutrient-rich oils, it forms a potent solution for healthy, thick hair.
Ingredients:
- 2 medium-sized red onions (or 1 large)
- 1 cup coconut oil (extra virgin)
- 2 tablespoons castor oil (optional)
- 1 teaspoon fenugreek seeds (optional)
- 5 to 10 curry leaves or neem leaves (optional)
- 10 drops rosemary or lavender essential oil (optional)
Instructions:
- Prepare Onion Juice:
- Peel and chop the onions into small pieces.
- Blend them with a little water to form a paste.
- Strain the paste using a fine sieve or muslin cloth to get fresh onion juice (about 4–5 tablespoons).
- Infuse the Oils:
- In a small pan, combine the coconut oil and castor oil.
- Add fenugreek seeds and curry or neem leaves if using.
- Heat on a low flame for 5 to 7 minutes until the seeds turn golden and the leaves become crispy.
- Turn off the heat and allow the oil to cool slightly.
- Combine Onion Juice:
- Once the oil is warm (not hot), add the extracted onion juice.
- Stir well and let it rest for 30 minutes.
- Do not boil the onion juice directly, as it may lose nutrients and create a strong odor.
- Strain and Store:
- Strain the mixture into a clean glass bottle using a sieve or cloth.
- Add essential oils if desired.
- Store the finished oil in a cool, dark place. Use within 2 to 3 weeks.
How to Use:
- Warm 2 to 3 tablespoons of the oil slightly.
- Massage into your scalp for 5 to 10 minutes using your fingertips.
- Leave it on for at least 1 to 2 hours or overnight.
- Wash off with a mild shampoo.
- Repeat 2 to 3 times a week for best results.
Benefits:
- Promotes thicker, faster hair growth
- Strengthens hair roots and reduces breakage
- Nourishes the scalp and reduces dandruff
- Improves hair texture and shine
Precautions:
- Always do a patch test before first use.
- If the smell is too strong, add a few drops of essential oil.
- For best results, use consistently for 4 to 6 weeks.
