This rich and moist chocolate cake is a dream to whip up! With just one bowl, minimal cleanup, and maximum flavor, it’s the perfect dessert for any occasion. Serve with your favorite frosting, a scoop of ice cream, or enjoy as is.
Ingredients
- Dry Ingredients:
- 1 ¾ cups (220g) all-purpose flour
- 1 ½ cups (300g) granulated sugar
- ¾ cup (65g) unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 ½ tsp baking powder
- 1 ½ tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp salt
- Wet Ingredients:
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup (240ml) whole milk (or buttermilk for extra richness)
- ½ cup (120ml) vegetable oil
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup (240ml) boiling water
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans or one 9×13-inch pan. - Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, sift together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Whisk to combine evenly. - Add Wet Ingredients
Add the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Mix until well combined using a hand whisk or electric mixer on low speed. - Incorporate Boiling Water
Gradually add the boiling water to the batter while mixing on low speed. The batter will become thin, but that’s normal—it ensures a moist cake! - Bake
Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans (or pour into the single pan). Bake for 30-35 minutes for round pans, or 35-40 minutes for a 9×13-inch pan, until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. - Cool
Allow the cake to cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely. - Serve or Frost
Frost with your favorite chocolate buttercream, ganache, or cream cheese frosting. Enjoy!
