This rich and moist chocolate cake is a dream to whip up! With just one bowl, minimal cleanup, and maximum flavor, it’s the perfect dessert for any occasion. Serve with your favorite frosting, a scoop of ice cream, or enjoy as is.

Ingredients

  • Dry Ingredients:
    • 1 ¾ cups (220g) all-purpose flour
    • 1 ½ cups (300g) granulated sugar
    • ¾ cup (65g) unsweetened cocoa powder
    • 1 ½ tsp baking powder
    • 1 ½ tsp baking soda
    • 1 tsp salt
  • Wet Ingredients:
    • 2 large eggs
    • 1 cup (240ml) whole milk (or buttermilk for extra richness)
    • ½ cup (120ml) vegetable oil
    • 2 tsp vanilla extract
    • 1 cup (240ml) boiling water

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans or one 9×13-inch pan.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, sift together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Whisk to combine evenly.
  3. Add Wet Ingredients
Add the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Mix until well combined using a hand whisk or electric mixer on low speed.
  4. Incorporate Boiling Water
Gradually add the boiling water to the batter while mixing on low speed. The batter will become thin, but that’s normal—it ensures a moist cake!
  5. Bake
Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans (or pour into the single pan). Bake for 30-35 minutes for round pans, or 35-40 minutes for a 9×13-inch pan, until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  6. Cool
Allow the cake to cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  7. Serve or Frost
Frost with your favorite chocolate buttercream, ganache, or cream cheese frosting. Enjoy!
