Old Time Oven Peach Cobbler

Ingredients

  • 4 cups fresh or canned peaches (peeled & sliced, if fresh)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar (divided)
  • ½ cup unsalted butter (1 stick, melted)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp ground cinnamon (optional)
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Prepare peaches:
    • If using fresh peaches, peel and slice them, then toss with ½ cup sugar.
    • If using canned peaches, drain lightly and mix with sugar.
  3. Melt butter in a 9×13-inch baking dish (place dish in oven while preheating to melt the butter).
  4. Make batter: In a bowl, whisk together flour, remaining ½ cup sugar, baking powder, salt, and milk until smooth. Add vanilla if using.
  5. Pour batter over the melted butter in the baking dish (do not stir).
  6. Add peaches on top of the batter. (The batter will rise up around the fruit while baking.)
  7. Bake for 40–45 minutes, until golden brown and bubbly.
  8. Cool slightly before serving. Delicious warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
