Old-School Spaghetti with classic flavors

INGREDENT

  • 1 lb (450g) ground beef
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tsp sugar (optional)
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp black pepper
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 12 oz (340g) spaghetti noodles
  • Grated Parmesan cheese (for serving)
  • Fresh parsley or basil, chopped (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Cook the spaghetti:
In a large pot of salted boiling water, cook the spaghetti according to the package directions. Drain and set aside.
  2. Make the sauce:
In a large skillet or saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add chopped onion and sauté for 3-4 minutes until translucent.
  3. Brown the beef:
Add ground beef to the pan and cook until fully browned, breaking it apart as it cooks. Drain excess fat if needed.
  4. Add garlic and seasoning:
Stir in minced garlic and cook for another 30 seconds. Add tomato paste, crushed tomatoes, sugar (if using), oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Stir well to combine.
  5. Simmer:
Reduce heat to low and let the sauce simmer for 15–20 minutes, stirring occasionally to allow the flavors to meld.
  6. Combine and serve:
Toss the cooked spaghetti with the sauce or serve the sauce on top of the pasta. Sprinkle with grated Parmesan and chopped parsley or basil, if desired.
