Old Fashioned Meatloaf Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef (80% lean)
  • 1/2 lb ground pork (optional, for added moisture)
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs (or crushed crackers)
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 cup ketchup (for topping)
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar (for topping, optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Set your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Prepare the Meatloaf Mixture:
    • In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, ground pork (if using), chopped onion, breadcrumbs, milk, egg, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, oregano, and garlic powder. Mix thoroughly with your hands or a spoon until everything is well incorporated.
  3. Shape the Meatloaf:
    • Transfer the meat mixture into a loaf pan and shape it into a loaf, or form it by hand and place it on a lined baking sheet.
  4. Topping (Optional):
    • In a small bowl, mix the ketchup with brown sugar if you want a sweet topping. Spread this mixture evenly over the top of the meatloaf.
  5. Bake:
    • Place the meatloaf in the preheated oven and bake for 1 hour, or until the meatloaf reaches an internal temperature of 160°F (71°C).
  6. Rest and Serve:
    • Once the meatloaf is cooked, let it rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.

Enjoy your old-fashioned meatloaf! You can serve it with mashed potatoes, roasted vegetables, or a simple salad.
