This timeless recipe for Old Fashioned Fudge is rich, creamy, and perfect for satisfying your sweet tooth. Made with simple ingredients, it’s a treat that never goes out of style and is perfect for sharing during the holidays or any special occasion.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter (plus extra for greasing the pan)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Pan:
Grease an 8×8-inch baking dish with butter or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.
  2. Mix Ingredients:
In a medium saucepan, combine sugar, milk, cocoa powder, butter, and salt.
  3. Cook the Mixture:
Place the saucepan over medium heat and stir constantly until the sugar dissolves. Once the mixture comes to a boil, stop stirring.
  4. Monitor Temperature:
Attach a candy thermometer to the side of the pan. Cook the mixture until it reaches the soft-ball stage (around 234°F or 112°C).
  5. Cool the Mixture:
Remove the pan from heat and allow it to cool to about 110°F (43°C) without stirring.
  6. Add Vanilla & Beat:
Stir in the vanilla extract. Then, beat the mixture with a wooden spoon until it thickens and loses its glossy appearance. This step helps create a creamy texture.
  7. Pour into Pan:
Quickly pour the fudge into the prepared pan, spreading it evenly. Work fast as it sets quickly.
  8. Let Set:
Allow the fudge to cool completely at room temperature or in the refrigerator until firm.
  9. Cut & Serve:
Once set, cut the fudge into small squares and enjoy!

Tips:

  • Use a heavy-bottomed saucepan to prevent scorching.
  • Avoid stirring the fudge while boiling to ensure the best texture.
  • Store in an airtight container for up to two weeks.

Enjoy this classic dessert that never fails to impress!
